University Intakes

New Zealand operates similarly to the Australian academic calendar. It’s highly recommended to use the Funds Transfer Scheme (FTS) to streamline your visa approval process.

Semester 1 (February)

Primary Intake: The largest intake of the year. All major degree programs across universities and Institutes of Technology open for admissions.
Apply by: October to December

Semester 2 (July)

Secondary Intake: Very popular among Indian students as it perfectly aligns with the conclusion of Indian undergraduate degree examinations.
Apply by: March to May

Trimester / Summer (November)

Limited Intake: Available mostly for specialized vocational courses, language pathways, or fast-track master's programs at select institutions.
Apply by: August to September

* Note: Immigration New Zealand requires proof of $20,000 NZD per year for living expenses. The Funds Transfer Scheme (FTS) is highly recommended for Indian students to demonstrate these funds securely. Also, eligible students can now work up to 25 hours per week during term time.
